  • Out with the old and in with the new

Barnaby’s Beanry is known throughout Amarillo, Texas, for its juicy burgers and beans with a punch. The Panhandle hot spot deserves a nod for its newest addition to the menu… cottonseed oil. The classic barbeque joint had been using shortening but made the switch, kicking out the trans and improving the taste of its fries. Read more about the Beanry here.—Tour Manager

  • Trans fats will not be back

In California, that is. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is making sure that all trans-fats are terminated. The new law banning trans was signed July 25, guaranteeing that future trips to California won’t be unhealthy ones. While you are in the Golden State, be sure to try the golden oil. Cottonseed oil is trans-free and perfect for frying and baking. Award-winning seafood restaurant Anthony’s Fish Grotto in San Diego agrees. The local favorite has been using cottonseed oil for more than 60 years and would have it no other way.—Tour Manager

  • Culinology magazine gives cottonseed oil thumbs up

Culinology magazine, the official magazine of the Research Chefs Association, reported extensively on trans-fat free solutions in its June 2008 issue. Calling out cottonseed oil as “fit to be fried,” writer Deb North spotlighted two of our fave fans of cottonseed oil – Utz Quality Foods, Inc., maker of the popular East Coast potato chip brand, and Buca di Beppo, a chain of Italian-style restaurants. Both rely on cottonseed oil to create delicious, trans-fat-free food items. We especially love the magazine’s choice of photos: beautiful images of light golden cottonseed oil in beakers, and fried chicken prepared in cottonseed oil! Check it out here .   -    Tour Manager
