  • Cottonseed oil: a popular oil throughout history

As America’s original vegetable oil, cottonseed oil has been the oil of choice for many generations. In fact, The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, Tenn., recently featured cottonseed oil in its “100 Years Ago” section, noting that in 1909, the oil was gaining in popularity. Cottonseed oil was chosen over olive oil for canning sardines, and it worked so well that it was introduced in Norway. Cottonseed oil continues to be used overseas and close to home, remaining a popular oil for everything from storing sardines to deep frying turkey!
